Ganga's Music & Story

This proud Palawa man has been rocking audiences of millions all over the world for thirty years. Ganga Giri (pronounced Gun-Gah Gear-Ree) was drumming by eight and followed the call of the didgeridoo soon after. What started as a connection to one of the world’s oldest instruments evolved into a groundbreaking fusion of Indigenous Australian roots with global beats.

Recognized by Aboriginal elders for honoring the Yidaki’s or didgeridoo’s spiritual and cultural heritage, Ganga channels the sacred connection to Country through every performance. With 15 albums and collaborations with legends like Peter Gabriel, he’s become a global cultural ambassador — showing the world what a contemporary, multicultural Australia sounds like. Culture evolving.

“Ganga Giri is taking the didgeridoo
places it has never been before”

- Peter Gabriel

Ganga Giri is a didgeridoo virtuoso and innovator, who fuses this ancient instrument with electronic production and vocals, this music is about connecting to culture. His sound melds disparate genres: Indigenous Australian, World, Funk, Techno, with exotic instruments: East Indian Tabla, African percussion, samplers and more.

Ganga Giri’s act can have many incarnations; from one-man band to a multi-member dynamic ensemble including indigenous dancers and a full multimedia show.

Ganga Giri on stage is modern primitive world music fused with deep earth bass music, using driving percussive, didgeridoos, congas, djembe, vocals, and original beats. His dynamic sets create dance floors with a sense of community, uniting everyone with the high energy of his beats.

Ganga has rocked festivals worldwide including events such as Glastonbury (UK), Burning Man (USA), Rainbow Serpent and Woodford Folk Festival (Australia), Winnipeg Folk Festival (Canada), Boom Festival (Portugal) Shambhala (Canada), Szieget (Hungary) and many more.

Outside of his live music performances, Ganga is also a founder of Didgeridoo Australia, a company that creates Aboriginal incursions and cultural experiences for schools, businesses and for corporate entertainment.

Ganga creates positive celebrations of the global community, by transcending cultural boundaries, nurturing interconnectedness and creating positive change through music.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country throughout the unceded lands of Australia and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, waters and community.

I also acknowledge their elders and ancestors who cared for Country since the beginning of time. I hope we can all walk together, learning from First Nations to care for Country and live sustainably.
