Ganga Giri Didgeridoo

About Ganga Giri –

(gun-gah gear-ree)

No matter where he plays, Ganga Giri literally blows audiences away. For 30 years the Yidaki (didjeridoo) virtuoso has taken his one-of-a-kind sound worldwide, electrifying millions. Driven by spirit, power and connection to country, this Pallawa man does extraordinary things with Australia’s oldest instrument, forging new musical boundaries. The word ‘unique’ is overused in music circles, but rightly applies to Ganga’s various guises at festivals, corporate events, schools and more.

Bio

Ganga Giri’s musical journey started on kit drums when he was eight years old. Inspired by a vivid dream, he began playing the didjeridoo
soon after; kindling a sound that would one day meld disparate genres:Indigenous Australian, World, Funk, Techno, with exotic instruments:East Indian Tabla, African percussion, samplers and more.

Ganga’s distinctive approach to the didgeridoo is respected by Aboriginal contemporaries who understand the instrument’s sacredness and appreciate his ability to express its link to Country and spirit. With 15 albums under his belt, and collaborations with the likes of Peter Gabriel and Wim Hof, he is a musical ambassador, offering global audiences a reflection of contemporary multicultural Australia.

Reviews & Interviews

What Our Client Says

“Ganga Giri’s performance at the Ottawa Bluesfest 2011on a hot a blistering afternoon grasped the mainstreet aged crowd from the word get go and filled their bodies with percussive rhythms with instruments from around the world. Ganga’s performance was, as the French would say ‘mon coup de coeur’ that performed on main stage of the entire festival”
– Claude Faucon, Main Stage Manager, Ottawa Bluesfest, Canada
“The Australian quartet stormed the fields of Wakarusa with their interpretation of ancient/modern cultures. The sound, the presence, the energy was overwhelming – hands down, the highlight of the entire festival.”
– Garret K. Woodward, Festival Review Wakarusa USA

Ganga Giri’s new work, Earth Wise Volumes 1 & 2, is his musical metamorphosis into a unique Australian Bass Music sound; deep earth didj-step fused with world elements and cranking phat electronic beats.

“Ganga Giri, a psychedelic tribe of musicians that create an amazing multi-layered blend of indigenous/electro/dance/rock, and upon my first vision of Giri dancing around the stage, waving his arms around and playing didgeridoo at the same time he’d won me over. I also loved the resonating vocals of Jornick, the rasta vocalist, but what I love most about Ganga Giri is the way that all the elements of their musical creation come together to create a sonical soundscape that is unlike anything else I’ve ever heard, truly original musicians.”
-Faster Louder Review, Australia, January 2010
