Ganga Giri Didgeridoo

About Ganga Giri

A great place to stay in contact and get to know me and my band and other communities offering more.

Firstly it is so good we can all gather again publicly as music for me is about bringing people and community together. When we come together we inspire each other in so many ways.

As a band we have played some great festivals of late and we are just back from The Town, what an event!!!
We have an amazing couple of New Years events we are super stoked to play. Tribe right on NY and then off to Tanglewood for the evening of the first. Our band right now are on fire and it’s so good to be slamming it on stage again!!!!!

My music expressions have opened up from being a Dad so my touring days on the road are shorter and I am only interested on being away from home in short bursts. I however have now tapped into the local community, and am really enjoying getting to play and contribute more performing locally, but also helping bring Culture and Education into schools and various other places needed in the community.

Bio

Ganga was born in Port Fairy, Australia. His musical journey began as a child when he started playing kit drums at age 8. Inspired by a dream, he followed his calling and began to play didjeridu the very next day. It has been a natural progression for Ganga to create a new contemporary sound by mixing funky rhythms through the didj – especially since the sound he was after wasn’t available on the market. Influenced by many varied genres, including East Indian Tabla and African percussion, he has married indigenous Australian and world music with fat funky dance beats, and has found an appreciative audience across the globe.

Ganga Giri has gained the respect of Aboriginal didgeridu (yidaki) players for his unique approach to didgeridu playing. Deeply inspired by the sacredness of Australia’s land and how that feeling can be expressed through the didjeridu, he has become an ambassador for his country, offering his world-wide audience a reflection of contemporary multicultural Australia.

The Ganga Giri Band was formed over years of stage hopping, searching for the sound and musicians he wanted to bring to his live set. The eclectic lineup was born. The sensual smooth vocals of Aishah Espinosa weaving in and out of the unusual melodic lineup of Michael Diamond on Harmonica and Tai Jordan on Trumpet sets up a sound that is fresh and exciting, swinging from almost a bluesy roots sound to soaring melodies over the energy of dance tracks held down by the solid beats of Dan Pearson on drums and regular guest performer Laura Entwined belly dancing. With Ganga at the helm this group brings energy and sound like no other.

“Ganga Giri’s performance at the Ottawa Bluesfest 2011on a hot a blistering afternoon grasped the mainstreet aged crowd from the word get go and filled their bodies with percussive rhythms with instruments from around the world. Ganga’s performance was, as the French would say ‘mon coup de coeur’ that performed on main stage of the entire festival”

“Ganga Giri is a wonderful musician. I first heard of him at Womad festival, and I loved the mix of his ancient and primitive instrument with a wide range of great dance grooves. Ganga is really taking the didgeridoo places it has never been before and developing a unique style of music.”
– Peter Gabriel
“Ganga Giri, a psychedelic tribe of musicians that create an amazing multi-layered blend of indigenous/electro/dance/rock, and upon my first vision of Giri dancing around the stage, waving his arms around and playing didgeridoo at the same time he’d won me over. I also loved the resonating vocals of Jornick, the rasta vocalist, but what I love most about Ganga Giri is the way that all the elements of their musical creation come together to create a sonical soundscape that is unlike anything else I’ve ever heard, truly original musicians.”
-Faster Louder Review, Australia, January 2010

Ganga Giri has been remixed by renowned world electronic producers Gaudi, Adham Shaihk, Liquid Stranger, J-pod & Temple Step and his productions have been synced to television shows such as Canada You Think You Can Dance and a new 90min live visual projection show created with Australia/Serbian artist VJ Meltstation.

Ganga Giri has honed his artistic creation in many formats; solo and duo sound systems, through to a multi-member ensemble that includes some of the finest singers, drummers and dancers.

“The Australian quartet stormed the fields of Wakarusa with their interpretation of ancient/modern cultures. The sound, the presence, the energy was overwhelming – hands down, the highlight of the entire festival.”
– Garret K. Woodward, Festival Review Wakarusa USA
